AEDM#30

The month has certainly gone quickly. Last day for Art Every Day Month. I have enjoyed visiting new blogs and seeing the creativity of others, which always inspires. My last piece is a zentangle inspired art piece. This is diferent from zentangle because it has colour. For this one I decided to use one colour for the shading rather than use lead pencil (graphite). For the string I used my initial in cursive. I like to try something new when I can, not that this is new but I haven't done it for a while, usually I do more than one colour, and simply abstract strings.

AEDM#29 and PPF2 &w/c pencils

Hi all in Paint Party Friday! Although my pic is using watercolour pencils, I did finish off with a wee bit of white paint. I plan to make my next piece a painting but don't hold your breath! I have just received a large batch of Inktense pencils chosen one by one, so will be itching to use them all!! Praps I should make more of a "painterly" picture as opposed to just colouring-in something. Wait and see. Thing is there is competition for my time. I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Note. All it seems to want from me is passwords galore, all of which I insert are "incorrect". Does anyone else get that stuff??? I must be a bimbo or something. At least I have printed out the user manual!

Nearly at the end of Art Everyday Month. Thanks to Leah for giving us a push to explore our creative side a bit more, and to those who have visited my blog, I hope you'll come back!

AEDM#28 Double pencil

Reading one of Margaret Bremner's posts this week about using double pencils for zentangle strings, thought I'd " 'ava go"!

AEDM#27 & Diva's challenge #97

This week the Diva asked us to design a zentangle without using a string, and record how we felt whilst creating it. I began by doing a Verdigogh variation but did leaves only on one side, then placed crescent moon on the other side of the line. By now the design took on a life of its own, and I quite enjoyed the process.
oops..crooked..!

AEDM#26 & zendala dare #33

I am a bit pedantic about being committed to posting daily when its part of a challenge, but sometimes life just takes over and suddenly a day has passed without fulfilling what I wanted. Never mind I say, that's life.

Erin posted a lovely zendala dare on the weekend which I have at last completed. A new thing I did with this one was to use a large area of black in a two colour piece. I think it added a bit of drama through the strong contrast of tone..

I used coloured .005 pens and Prisma Verithins.

AEDM#24

As I am about 'over' split complementary colour schemes at the moment, thought I would do an analogous scheme. That is 3 adjacent colours on the colour wheel. Sometimes it is called 'harmonious' colour scheme. Well named as there is always a related colour within it, in this case each colour has blue in it. I use this type of colour scheme quite a bit, as it rarely fails. Used Derwent Artists pencils for this one.

AEDM#23 and watercolour pencil technique

As I worked on this ZIA, I though there may be someone who is a bit unsure about watercolour pencils, so I took some photos of the process. I worked on watercolour paper 300gsm..quite heavy. It was a medium texture, almost smooth. I used Derwent Inktense pencils to colour initially. The thing with wc pencils is you dont have to colour everything in, but gradually move away from oplace of origin and lighten the coloour if you wish, which is a nice effect. A problem I found was the pecil would not spread evenly on the wc paper.
Here is my picture after the first colouring.

It looks rather rough and sketchy but thats ok...

Next step to apply water with a no2 brush to dissolve the pencil and sometimes blend it. However, it still looked a bit ragged, so....

I used my Prisma Verithin pencils to touch it up, I think it needed that.

AEDM#22 and diva challenge 96

I was a bit naughty with this weeks tangle challenge. I drew a picture !! I couldnt resist turning the Zingers (this weeks tangle to use) into chimneys!!! and fence posts! As long as Maria doesn't see it I will be ok!!  I wouldn't like something I designed to be mangulated by somebody. But then there are no mistakes hey?
Oh well, it takes all sorts doesn't it.
oh yes..grass too..

AEDM#22

Would you believe I'm writing a post in front of a double classroom of students doing exams? Thing is I have been writing reports for an hour and my brain has nearly dried up, or whatever happens on overload!!
I scanned my picture last night so can pop it in here right now. I have presented it before half done and asking advice about my use of colour. I had some very helpful resposes and here is my final effort. The exercise really was to try out watercolour on ordinary canvas with no primer. You can work out the results yourself! Admittedly, it did require a few layers of paint.

NB the white lines around the shapes are canvas left, on the shapes, white paint.

AEDM #21

One really good thing about Art Every Day Month, it gets you to finish off half done art or tangle pieces. I began this one over a year ago, and came across it yesterday. Phew! I was stressing about having time to do a whole new piece so it was a relief. Glad its finished now, not that I'm over the moon about it, I think I've changed a bit since starting this piece, but hey, its done! Thanks to Leah for her part in the process too.
I worked on a colourwash background on watercolour paper.

AEDM#20 and Zendare#32

At first I had no idea how to work on this zendala pattern. However once I got into it, I found myself "in the 'zone' and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks Erin.

I used .005 pen and Prismacolour Verithin blue pencil.

AEDM#19. new technique

Now this may look a bit wierd! Or even octopussies (!). But I wanted to try a different technique. This was to use watercolour pencils, letting them go where they may, the same with the watering bit. After that use black micron for the tangles  on the colour, then coloured pen for spaces inbetween. I was quite pleased with the result and it was fun to do.

AEDM#18

Yesterday I had a table with a friend at the local Arts Market. I displayed both paintings and zentangles, managing to sell two small framed zias. There was quite an interest in the zentangles and a number signed up to do some workshops. Whilst there I began this zendala and finished it when I came home.

The market was quite an unexpected experience. I thought it would be hard work and maybe get a bit boring just sitting there. I was pleasantly surprised. Because there were two of us we could take turns at looking around at the other stalls and chat to other stall holders, who were only too pleased to share their experiences and pass on informative hints. Such a range of delightful art and craft. So many talented people.
After four hours it felt like a little community. As well as the stall holders there was aconsiderable number of people and past students who passed by and chatted. The day went in no time!
Now I put the photo here it looks rather a mess!! Didn't notice it on the day, we just wanted to display as much as we could. Oh well, guess its all experience and we'll look more presentable next time!

AEDM#17

I had this zendala half drawn, so completed and coloured it for AEDM. Also thought I would put the second half of my split comp colour chart for reference.( Other half on http://preciousworker.blogspot.com.au/2012/11/aedm14-and-split-comp-colours.html

AEDM#15 AND ZENDALAS

I really enjoy working on Erin's zendala dares! Here's a few more repeat ones in black and white. The smaller one I plan to colour.

AEDM#14 and split comp colours

I just thought I would do another split complementary colour chart, make it simpler and easier to follow than the previous one as a better reference. The first half will be AEDM#14.

zendala dare #31, AEDM#12 and studio day

I have half packed up after Studio Day, the rest can wait until tomorow. I need a morning brain not a 10pm one to sort things out. Good thing is I have a clear road to next Saturday, when Bertie and I do our first session at the Warragul Art Market. I think people came today to view work, and it was nice to hear the "Oohs" and "Aahs", but at the market people come to buy. Took a few snaps but they are a bit reflective.

Some of my bird pics

Another bird pic with some landscapes and flowers

This was a commission for a cousin doing a larger version of a smaller one I did for a Gallery in Alice Springs. I called this "We are the land" , showing Aboriginal culture and belief.

My zentangle table

I used gelly rollpens for this.
Finally my zendala dare #31. This can be my AEDM #12!!

AEDM#11

Pretty quiet this morning for Open Studios Day, but the sun is shining. Good thing is I have been able to finish off bits and pieces. Not quite sure if this one is "done" but I will put it in for today.

The next is a continuation of the "watercolour on canvas" piece. Do you ever feel really pleased with a piece of work, and then you do something which spoils it?? To you anyway. Well I feel like that first about the light green and secondly about the light blue, so would appreciate any advice on colours here. Hey how about that , asking for advice on colour!! Oh well, guess I dont know it all yet!!Thats why I need my bloggies!!

I still have line details to put in after I'm happy with background.

AEDM#10

My offering for today. I am trying out very ordinary canvas and watercolour. It didnt take long to discover it doesnt work. i followed that up with some "Iradori" Watercolours/gouache, which was better. Praps tomorrow I can do some work on it again as a demo for studio day.

challenge#94 and AEDM9

I'm a bit late with challenge #94 from the Diva this week, what with Open Studios Day coming up, participating in Art Every day Month and some exams to mark, but I.m glad I made it as I quite enjoyed this weeks challenge. We were asked to use the tangle 'Socc'.

Tangles: Socc, Nzepple, Onomato, Giotto,Camelia.

AEDM#8 RED ZIA

The other day I went to a framing shop and found a cute one for $1! It has 3 square frame spaces well suited to zentangles though a bit smaller than 90 x 90 cms. The first design  for this little frame I'm using  for AEDM#8.
I used a tile which had been colour-washed, a N0.1 Micron then shaded with coloured pencil.

AEDM#7 ART Poster

With Open Studio day coming up on Sunday, I made a poster to put outside and on a few lamposts. I did the black and white in Draw Plus on A4 then photocopied it to A3. Last night I coloured it in using my Prismacolours. Today I'll get some copies made for the lamposts. For the border I used my Giotto tangle. Very useful. I started to do gradient on the Welcome but decided it would take too long so just did flat colour. That took 3 hrs anyway!! I found when the photo was on the screen , it wasn't as coloured in as I thought!! Nevermind, I thought it could be a good piece for day 7.

AEDM#5 zendala#30 linework

My AEDM for today is this weeks zendala dare #30. So far in line only, will colour it for tomorow. Not a lot of spare time at the moment as I am getting my place ready for "Open Studios" next Sunday. First job was to get my front door approach colourful. Yesterday had massive fun buying flowers, most "bloomers"..no, not with underwear, but means they are in flower! So despite a hot day, I managed to get all out front planted, except for the hanging basket - I'd run out of potting mix by then. Will take some photos later.

AEDM#4 and coloured ZD29

AEDM#3 and zendala dare 29 to colour

I nearly didn't post this it's such a mess, but then that's the path of the artist hey! I wanted to keep exploring Bunzo but instead I think I murdered it! If anyone should look at it at least they'll think "Oh yeah, I can do better than that " and be all encouraged, ha, ha! I continued to play with Inktense pencils, but made a mess of that too. Oh dear. I do like my bird in the top corner though. Ha ha..a bunzo bird!!

Big thanks to all who sent me such nice comments too.

Another thing I continued to work on was  zendala dare #29. I have created just the line work here, if anyone wanted to colour it in you are welcome. My next job is to colour with one of my split complementary colour schemes I havent used yet.

AEDM#2 Bunzo onfire!"

After my debarkle yesterday with my laptop, I made sure I could download the picture first!! I really enjoyed doing this one. ! Thanks AEDM for the 'push'.
