aedm#30 and #31

Ive been a busy girl tonight as I have completed 3 Challenge #50's. Must be a record for me. They dont seem to come up as good scanning them but theres not much i can do about that. For our Diva's challenge this week we were to make a zentangle using larger than usual size tangles. Took a while to get the brain around this, but here are my attempts. The third one has my own tangles of eucalyptus flowers.
The first two didnt look much at first, but when I put on the shading, they seem to come to life. Of course I couldnt resist colouring my own tangles!!

AEDM#29

Having just had 3 days by the sea, tho it was too cold to go in, the house where we stayed was quite in the bush, so I had a great time taking photos, collecting samples and drawing them..flora that is. I just loooooved the banksia, especially close up, and the little flower thats like a balloon. Then there was a wierd one with flowers that resemble old spuds!! If anyone knows their names I'd be delighted!

and hows this feathery thingy....amazing..

AEDM#28

In preparing for my new Year 11's I created two more rose pictures from different styles, Cubist and Fauvist.

challenge #49 and AEDM#27

Yay! Im chuffed cos I finished my challenge 49 and AEDM#27. I was wanting to get no 27 done as I wont be back until the 27th.
Challenge 49 is to create a zentangle with a special red thread in response to this Chinese proverb:-

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break."

I have used the celtic knot which can symbolise eternity, peace or eternal love.

AEDM#23

Well, the month is creeping along and we're up to day 23!! I can keep up with it most of the time as I was already doing some sort of art work at night each day, but if I go out at night it gets a bit close. How does everyone else find keeping up with daily artworks? Especially if you have a job to go to. Be interesting to know. I appreciate your comments, they are always encouraging, and make keeping up with blogs quite rewarding.

Decided to do a tangled bird, but find not so easy on waterolour paper when it has a bit of tooth in it, However managed it and thought to colour the background with plain colour but the pattern bug took hold and the pencil just had to draw them!! They began to shout at the bird so first I stopped doing them, and had to add some black so you could find the bird!

STUDENT'S WORK

For those who have been Art teachers, I thought you may like to see some of my Year 11's work, especially their tangles!! I dont have any budding artists these are just creative kids who work hard.
The first one was a lino cut, first in black and white then in a series of mixed colours. This students second piece was of a tree with tangled leaves, a sample cut out shown. The second student designed a tangled necklace. Took her forever. The final one is a sketch which was turned into a 3D paper mache of a torso with a light in it, seeping out through cracks as in the drawing. Quite amazing but her photo doesnt do it justice so I havent included it.
I am pleased that having  learnt how to tangle these young people will always have this to develop and enjoy.

AEDM#20

Just for a change I have just coloured in the background of a lino print I did earlier in the year. I like this one! I used Prismacolour pencils. They are so lovely and bright.

CHALLENGE #48(2nd) AND AEDM#19

Another painted one. However not too bad as a colour scheme. Tried to make it bright but didnt quite make it.  Interesting that the colours deaden somewhat when they dry. I left some of the arches white and black to brighten it up.
A big thank you to all who have sent such encouraging comments. They certainly brighten my day!!

challenge #48 and AEDM #18

Hoorah! No school today. Have spent the morning marking year 11 folios, quite enjoy that actually, seeing how students have developed through the semester. Will put some work on tomorrow when I have more time. So for today I have Diva's challenge finished which is also AEDM #18. I'm not mad about the colours.
Media watercolour paint on watercolour paper.

AEDM#17

Wow, what a day its been today! Sorry I dont have the coloured version of 16 to show you as I left it at school mistakenly. My head was all over the place. It was my last lesson of the year, and students were to hand in their semesters work for assessment. Three students were absent, this meant I needed to track them down to arrange when I would receive it. Phoning parents, students, searching for students at school. Too much for me. To add to that I had some students who had not submitted an essay, for which they should fail the subject. I quickly wrote a redemption questionaire, that is, the essay broken down into simple questions.  This meant I had to find THOSE students to give them the questions. No wonder I was all over the place, loaded up with books to mark when I left school.

Anyway, I thought I could enter my latest large picture for art every day. Its not done today, but those who are following my "stuff" Im sure you would like to see it. Its A3 size, on colourwash.

AEDM#16 AND CHALLENGE #48

The Diva's  challenge for this week is to use a circle, a square and a triangle as a string, and form the design around them. I tried one, it was a disaster! Turned to my ZIA book with watercolour paper and lightly sketched another. Not too good either! Turned the page, 3rd attempt shown below in black and white. Tonight I shall paint for tomorrows AEDM.

AEDM#13

Having experimented with colour wash lately, I couldn't resist doing a few!

Friday 11 November 2011

AEDM#12

Thought I'd do a black and white tangle, and try to NOT fill it!!

Thursday 10 November 2011

AEDM#11

Should have posted my Remembrance day piece here today. If you havent seen it and you check me out today please look as its a tribute to  my Dad. So for todays piece, another colourwash (using Tombow markers drawn onto plastic, sprayed on with water and then lay tile on the wash.see pics) and Inktense colour fuschia, very lightly watered down.

OOps, sorry they're a bit out of focus. You need to experiemnt until you get your amount of water spray "just right". I still have a way to go myself with this process. I have purchased a finer spray but haven't used it yet.

AEDM#10

Another ribbon tangle today, using double pencils of course. This time I coloured the background with only Prismacolours to get a contrast with the black and white pen work. I liked the result.

CHALLENGE #47 AND AEDM #9

This weeks Diva's challenge is to create something for Rememberance Day. I began with the red poppies then it became a tribute to my Dad who went down with the HMAS Perth in 1942, together with the US Ship HSS Houston. There is no memorial place to visit here in Victoria for my Dad, so now I can put one on the internet!! Plus frame my little piece. What a waste of so many good men and women, but their sacrifice has kept us free. Thank you. I wont forget. Interesting that my last grandson was born on the 11/11/10.
Media: .005 and .01 pens, watercolour paints on watercolour paper.

AEDM#8

At last some watercolour paper!! In my ZIA fun book which I havent used for ages. enjoyed this one.

Sunday 6 November 2011

AEDM#7

Painting in the previous tangle I was disappointed to discover it wasnt on watercolour paper as I had thought. Sometimes it can be hard to spot the diff when you have so many specialist papers around in a classroom and they are out of their bags! The surface was very absorbent and lacked that lovely luminosity you get with watercolour paper, anyway here it is. Now I really DO want to do a wc one.

Saturday 5 November 2011

AEDM#6

Here is todays art.. tangle of course. Following MB's idea of using new or unused for ages tangles, I had such fun with this, trouble is I cant recall theri names..how effecient is that? anyway, other tanglers will recognize them no doubt.  Thing is I did this on watercolour paper, so now I want to paint it!!
Leah of AEDM gave a quote today that I related to well. Take imagination breakes..Relaxed attention is one of the most productive states  of mind for creativity, and sometimes it has to be learned.

Friday 4 November 2011

AEDM #5

Used another colour wash tile today which had a rose stamp on it. Felt I had to keep colours toned down for this and banned black. used .005 pens and prismas.

EVERY DAY ART MONTH

Inspired by Margaret Bremners blog, I too have signed up for this challenge to create an artwork each day for the month of November.  Always one for a challenge me!
Tangles: striping, warped eggs, vortex, beadlines.

I liked her idea of revisiting tangles not used for a while, so I began with that, but then moved on to use my colour wash backgrounds, which always inspire me.

So these are my first 4 for the month, seeing as its the 4th November today here in Australia!
The last work was made using white gel pen, and coloured using Prismacolour pencils. The tangle used is puff.
